About Denim Fabric
It is traded by weight in ounces per square yard — 8oz for shirting weights, 10–12oz for standard jeans, 14oz and above for heavy workwear. Ring-spun denim gives the uneven, characterful surface prized in premium garments; open-end denim is flatter, cheaper and dominates volume production.
Stretch denim adds a small percentage of elastane and now accounts for a large share of womenswear. Check both the elastane content and the recovery behaviour, since poor recovery shows up as bagging after wear.

Denim Fabric — buyer FAQs
What does 10oz denim mean?
The weight of one square yard of the fabric — 10 ounces. Higher numbers mean heavier, stiffer cloth; 10–12oz is the usual range for jeans.
What is the difference between ring-spun and open-end denim?
Ring-spun yarn produces an uneven, textured surface favoured for premium denim. Open-end yarn is faster and cheaper to spin, giving a flatter, more uniform fabric used in volume production.
