About Knitted Fabric
Single jersey is the lightest and most common construction, used for t-shirts; interlock is a double-knit with the same face on both sides; rib knits give lateral stretch for cuffs and collars; fleece adds a brushed back for winterwear. Elastane is added where higher stretch and recovery are needed.
Knits are traded by weight, quoted per kilogram against a GSM, and specified by yarn count, loop length and finish. Tiruppur is the deepest source in India.

Why is knitted fabric sold by weight?
Because knit dimensions change with tension and finishing, so length is an unreliable basis for trade. Weight against a stated GSM is the stable measure.
What GSM should I choose for t-shirts?
Around 160–180 GSM single jersey is the common range for regular t-shirts. Lighter goes sheer; heavier suits premium and winter styles.
